John passed away peacefully at home in the care of VNA Hospice and surrounded by loved ones on November 28, 2023, in Addison, Texas. He was born in Spokane, Washington, on December 14, 1951. His father, John Meleky, Jr., was a highly decorated Air Force Colonel who flew missions in WW2 and served on the Strategic Air Command and at the Pentagon during his lifelong military career. His mother, Mary Jane (Cook) Meleky, earned a Masters in Psychology and was the manager of Bexar County MHMR for Alcohol Abuse. She lived to be 100! John moved frequently growing up as his father traveled with the Air Force. In 1970, he graduated from Radford High School in Honolulu, Hawaii, and then he earned an Associate’s Degree at San Antonio College in 1973.
John began a long and productive career in programming and information technology beginning in 1975 at Security Service Federal Credit Union. He was largely self-taught. He was a Special Projects Manager at Healthcare International, an IBM systems trainer at Mobil Oil and at DCS Consulting, Inc. John spent 22 years as IT Director and Programmer Analyst at Voice Retrieval and Information Services. John earned the certification of Professional Scrum Master 1 in 2014. By far his favorite assignment was the last ten years of his career at ViaTech Publishing Solutions as iSeries Systems Developer. He delighted in being an integral part of that team!
On June 6, 1992, John married the love of his life, Lee Ann Locker. John felt blessed to be a father to Lee’s son, Wes Lewis, and welcomed Wes’s wife Christy and then their three wonderful children. He was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather and they were the joy of his life.
John was an active member of St. Ann Parish of Coppell where he served as a Eucharistic minister, an usher, and on the Carnival Committee. Together, John and Lee Ann provided hospitality on the RCIA team at St. Ann for four years. In his community, John was recognized by the Mayor of Addison for his service on the Planning & Zoning Commission from 2017 to 2023. John was also a speaker for COMMON Organization presenting topics for the Power I by IBM. From self-taught to teacher, he enjoyed sharing his expertise.
John was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Jane Meleky. He is survived by his sister, Catherine Elizabeth Meleky of Frisco, Texas, his devoted wife, Lee Ann (Locker) Meleky, his son Wes Lewis (Christy), and grandchildren Timothy, Lainey, and Jacob of Corinth, Texas.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel at St. Ann Parish, 180 Samuel Blvd., Coppell, TX, 75019, at 2:30pm on Monday, December 11th, followed by a reception there. All are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to VNA Texas Meals on Wheels (vnatexas.org), ProLove Ministries (proloveministries.org), or a charity of your choice. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to John’s medical team who lovingly nicknamed him “Einstein” in the hospital, to all the dear friends who stood by John’s side, and to VNA Hospice.
