Robert was born in Amityville, L.I., and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in the VietNam war, and received the Purple Heart for his service. In his years of work, Robert was a manufacturing assistant for Grummans Aerospace in Bethpage.
Predeceasing him is his beloved wife, Theresa Lynn Mathews, and his parents, Robert Julius Mathews, Sr. and Helen Theresa Mathews. Surviving are his children - Robert Julius Mathews, III and Cristal Anne Mathews; and his siblings - his sister, Catherine Mary Constanza and brother-in-law, David; his brother, John William Mathews and sister-in-law; Sharon, his brother, William Parker Mathews and sister-in-law, Michele. Also surviving is his aunt, Margaret Mary Morgan, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday, July 26th, from 10:30 - 12:30 p.m. for visitation.
At 12:30, prayers will be offered, and the cortege will depart for Calverton National Cemetery by 1:00 p.m. At Calverton, Military Honors and presentation of the U.S. flag will be conducted by the United States Marine Corps Ceremonial Guard; with committal prayers following.
