Becoming Ken’s mother was one of the two greatest blessings for Joann, with her marriage to Joe being the other blessing. Joann and Joe raised Ken in Little Rock, later moving to Maumelle to enjoy retirement life on a golf course. In 2009, Joann and Joe moved to Conway, AR to be closer to their grandchildren and daughter-in-law.

Joann spent many summers vacationing with her son and husband in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They eventually purchased a lake front condominium where they continued sharing their enjoyment of boating and lake life with their grandchildren. Joann loved taking cruises with husband and later with her grandchildren to the Caribbean and Europe. Joann was an avid Bridge and Gin Rummy player for most of her adult life. She loved the precious moments she shared with her grandchildren, Madeline and Blake. Joann enjoyed golf outings, Arkansas Travelers baseball games and eating catfish with her family. She was a member of Little Rock Razorback Club, Western Hills Country Club, Maumelle Newcomers Club, and the First United Methodist Church of Maumelle.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother William “Bill” Doak and his wife Louis, and her son Kenyon Doak Brindley.
