Glen David Shaw, age 74, of Conway, Arkansas passed away on Friday, May 10, 2024. He was born on February 20, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Orville and Mabel Shop Shaw. In addition to his parents, Glen is preceded in death by his brother, Earl Hosler; and sister, Nancy Houdesheldt.
Glen was an exceptional outdoorsman, deeply passionate about nature. He served as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, where he exhibited unparalleled dedication to teaching and guiding children. His mantra, "What's the next step," exemplified his constant focus on progress and improvement, inspiring all those around him to strive for excellence.
With a diverse career spanning from his start of working at a service station, to the Arkansas Highway Department, air traffic control, and eventually the satellite industry, Glen's ingenuity and curiosity knew no bounds. A patent holder, inventor, and avid tinkerer, he dedicated his time to creating and enhancing the world around him. Glen's love for woodworking, fishing, birdwatching, and collecting Native American artifacts were testaments to his appreciation for craftsmanship and history.
Notably, Glen operated his own bird sanctuary, attracting rare species annually. His passion for the natural world extended to his love for museums, aeronautics, and more, reflecting his insatiable thirst for knowledge and exploration.
Glen is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Charlotte Shaw; son, Kenneth Shaw; daughter, Jennifer (Norman Elliot) Shaw; grandsons, Zane Parker, Kerrick Parker, and William Shaw; and family-in-law, Charles Starnes, Tom (Charla) Starnes, Carol (Bob) Kirkpatrick, David (Elaine) Starnes, Donna Barnes, and Barbara Hosler; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in Glen’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
