Retired Air Force Col. William (Bill) Frank Haney, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 27, 2016 in Magnolia, TX. He was under the loving care of the wonderful staff at Llewellyn’s Magnolia Place and the angels at Rose of Texas Hospice. Bill was born on May 7, 1932 in Victoria, Texas to William Frank Haney, and Jeanette Haney. During his formative years his family moved from Victoria to the Rio Grande Valley, to Oklahoma, and Wisconsin, before coming back to Victoria. With both parents teachers, the emphasis at home was on education. He graduated from Patti Welder High School in Victoria in 1950. It was during his Freshman year at Texas A&M that he met his future wife, Clothyle Sweeney. They married in 1953. He played the saxophone in the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Band and graduated in 1955 with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and began flight training. He earned his wings in 1956. He instructed in T-33’s at Laredo from 1956 to 1959. From 1960 to 1964 he flew the T-33, L-20, and RB-66 at Chanute AFB, Il, Alconbury AFB in England, Toul AFB in France, and finally Ellington AFB, TX. Bill left active duty service in 1964 to work for Shell Oil. In 1966 he rejoined the Air Force Reserve as a full-time Maintenance Technician and pilot at Carswell AFB, TX while flying the C-124. In 1972 he was selected to be the Pittsburgh AFB Wing and Base Commander flying the C-123. Bill eventually served as the Air Force Reserve Maintenance Director and finally retired as the Director of Logistics for the Air Force Reserve in 1986 as a full Colonel. After retiring from the Air Force, Bill moved to San Antonio from 1986 to 1995 to work in real estate sales and appraisals, before teaching at a real estate school. He and Clothyle moved to Conroe in 2003. For a few years they became full time RV’er’s traveling all over the country, before coming back to the Conroe area for good in 2009. Among Bill’s best memories were special times with each son. He was extremely proud watching his grandson, Zach and granddaughter, Samantha growing up to become wonderful adults. Bill is preceded in death by his father, mother and two sisters, Grace Lewis and Marjorie Fromme. He is survived by his wife, Clothyle Haney of Conroe TX, sons Michael Haney of New Caney, TX, and Keith Haney, his wife Jane of Hanford, Ca, and their children Zachary Haney of Monterey, Ca, and Samantha Haney of East Hampton, N.Y. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law Jeanette and Dr. Henry Dittert, his brothers and sisters-in-law David and Judy Haney and Bruce and Gail Haney, and his brothers-in-law Paul Lewis and Kenneth Fromme, along with numerous nephews and nieces, and grand nephews and nieces. Inurnment with military honors will be held graveside November 19, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Cemetery, Victoria, TX. The family requests in lieu of flowers, to please send a donation to the American Heart Association or any military charity.
