Preceded in death by his parents, William Hardie Dodson and Lila Jarman Best Dodson; as well as his foster parents, Curtis and Mabel Dodson Slate; and foster sister, Nancy Slate Stone.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Naylor Dodson; children, William Hardy Dodson III and his wife Barbie, Travis William Dodson and his wife Gina, Daniel Samuel Dodson and his wife Meredith, and Amanda Dodson Fox and her husband Michael; eight grandchildren, William Hardy Dodson IV and his wife Abby, Jonathan Dodson, Racheal Dodson Saienni and her husband Cody, Tanis Dodson and his wife Fern, Taryn Dodson and Jesse Burks, Elias Dodson, Ean Dodson, Asher Fox.
Bill retired from the Houston Police Department after 22 years of service. From 1980-1993 he was one of four people over the field training program working directly under the chief. He wrote many of the SOPs that are still being used today. He then worked for CISD Police Department for 10 years. He worked many various jobs in his life. He was a computer operator at Shell Oil, McDonald Automation, and then moved to Lockheed at NASA where he had the privilege of working on the Moon shot as well as Apollo 11, 12 and 13.
He spent 3 years driving tractor-trailer trucks. He had 16 years in the USAF and was a master sergeant. He was a Commander of the Civil Air Patrol at the Montgomery County Airport in Conroe, Texas. He had his own Locksmith Business and was president of the Houston Locksmith Association. As well as being on the state board of Locksmiths.
He had his commercial pilot license and loved flying small planes. He used a flight simulator after he could no longer fly. He learned leather crafting, which he really enjoyed.
After retiring, he and Barbara spent 13 years traveling over the country in their Airstream travel trailer.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery. He loved his Lord and spent hours in his Word. He made it known all was in God’s Hands and that he was ready to go. We, as a family will miss him terribly.
Visitation for Bill will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024 beginning at 9:00 AM at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, TX, with the funeral service starting at 10:00am. Immediately following there will be a graveside service at the mausoleum in Garden Park Cemetery.
