Mary Lena Kellar, born on May 14, 1924, in Mineola, Texas. Mary closed her eyes on earth and opened them in the presence of God on May 28, 2024, at the age of 100. Mary was the third of 12 children born to Harvey and Velma Amos Skinner.
After completing high school, Mary moved to Houston and lived with her sister. While waitressing in a local restaurant, she met her soon to be husband, Charles T. Kellar. Mary and Charles had a long and wonderful married life. Many hours were spent volunteering in the Conroe and Lake Conroe Area.
Mary and husband Charles travelled extensively after retirement to include trips to Europe and North Africa. Their travels also included many of the states including a cruise to Alaska. They played many of the golf courses in the eastern states with their golfing buddies Bob and Marie Everingham. Many a summer was spent together as host couple in state parks near Mandan, North Dakota and Frenchtown, Montana.
Mary and Charles were founding and longtime members of West Conroe Baptist Church. They were actively involved in a senior’s group there and led many guided tours throughout the United States.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Charles T. Kellar, son Charles Gary Kellar, her mother Velma and father Harvey, sisters Lilian Strickland, Dorothy Newman, Beatrice Harrison and Ann Riddle, and brothers, Neal Skinner, Harvey Skinner Jr., Carl David Skinner, Hubert Skinner, James Newton Skinner, and Donald Ray Skinner.
She is survived by her son Michael L. Kellar and wife Gayle of Houston, Grandchildren Curtis Brian Kellar and wife Debbie of Brownwood, TX, Shelley Dawn Campbell and husband Shawn of Victoria, TX and Kevin Michael Kellar and wife Amy of Katy, TX. Mary also had four great-grandchildren, Tyler Michael Kellar and wife Cheyenne, Logan Scott Kellar, McKinley and Kort Campbell, and four great-great-grandchildren, Michael James, Savannah, Luke and Harper Kellar, and sister Betty Savage of Mineola, TX.
A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. A graveside will occur Saturday, June 8, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Conroe Memorial Park, 1600 Porter Rd, Conroe, TX 77301.
