Mary E. Carriere, 83, of Conroe, Texas, went home to be with the Lord on February 11, 2017. She was born to the late William L. and Frances Alden on April 28, 1933 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mary received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Port Arthur, Texas, where she also met the love of her life, the late John C. Carriere. They married December 31, 1955 in Groves, Texas. Their earlier years were spent in Cleveland, Houston, and eventually they settled in Conroe, Texas, in 1967. Family and friends described Mary as having a love for life, family, and a gift of hospitality! Not only was she a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, she also gave countless of hours volunteering to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Vincent De Paul, the Red Cross, Junior Service Guild and Beta Sigma Phi serving Montgomery County. She worked as a school nurse in several CISD schools; and later for Sacred Heart Catholic School before retiring to care for her husband in his thirteen year battle with cancer. Her hobbies were sewing, crafting, cooking and traveling. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John C. Carriere; her parents William L. and Frances Alden; brother William T. Alden and wife Lupy; brother and sister-in-law’s Ollen and Georgette Carriere, and Jean Whitaker. Mary is survived by her three children, John D. Carriere and wife Sherry of Waco, Texas, Annette Collins and husband Terry of Montgomery, Texas, and Catherine Ermis and husband Kevin of Kerrville, Texas; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mary Lou Whitaker of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
A memorial Rosary will be Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas; with a memorial Mass to follow at 1:30 p.m. Inurnment will follow at Garden Park Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be sent to Gods Love Our Mission Sacred Heart Building Fund 704 Old Montgomery Rd. Conroe, TX, 77301. The Family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Silver Hills Assisted Living and Traditions Hospice for their loving care.
