I am pictured with KK with wedding dress by the Outaouais river in Canada(1997.  I lacked whatever it took to be Karl's partner. 

At that time he was Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology and anything by Steve Jobs passionate but always truly fond of learning.  

I have fond memories of his generous  sister Mary, Michael D., Sarah, her little bro and his nephew Martin and Nathan.  Marryon Maass and Pam and Yanis are names that evoke equally beautiful memories.  

I have never remarried.

I have known Karl for many years. We worked together at the hospital and belonged to the same gym.  I helped edit Karl's book.  I have known him in many capacities. He became an honorary housemate at yearly parties.  Karl was opinionated in a good way and always could stir up conversation. I am still so shocked at this as I had always known him as someone who was in good shape--however did not know family genetics.  I am so sad that we did not stay in contact when he was in Texas. Last time we connected was right before Christmas and he seemed to feel it had been a good move. I am happy he got to spend time with family this last year.

My condolences to all, family and friends of Karl. We all know he still had a lot of plans for the future. And this was not one of those plans. But I will remember him as a kind and loving person, may he rest in peace.

Ich habe Karl im Juni 2009 in Metz bei der Hochzeit seines Neffen Nathan kennen und schaetzen gelernt. Spaeter dann in Muenchen hatten wir die Gelegenheit über Vieles zu sprechen und - zu lachen.
Die Nachricht über seinen plötzlichen Tod hat mich betroffen gemacht - Karl wird ihn in meiner Erinnerung einen festen Platz haben.

My condolences to the Kracklauer family and friends. I was truly shocked to hear the news. Karl was a colleague of mine in various psychological circles here in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Though somewhat emotionally shy, Karl had a penetrating analytical mind and and kept an interest in the subjects that he pursued at Duquesne. I would have preferred if Karl had remained dedicated to psychological research here in the Bay Area because he had a real talent in that discipline, but I know that he wanted to return to Texas and participate in the family business. I believe it was Karl's way of reconnecting with his family and his roots, and I am sad that he only had a few years to experience that.  -- Yannis Toussulis (Bay Area, CA).

MY heart goes out to your family and friends of Karl who lost you so suddenly and abruptly. We met some years back maybe 3 times and Karl decided to interview me every tuesday for one year.  It was great he would call on tuesday and I would tell him everything psychic that had happened.  No one had ever done that with me and I looked forward to our tuesdays sharing on the phone and he began to share about the things in his life.  We lost touch after he moved to Texas but he e mailed me when he left.  I was honored that he wrote this paper "Grokking the Medium " about our talks.  He was such a kind and gentle man and I was touched by his interest in how my psyche worked.  He asked me my intuitive advice on some life changes and I was happy to give him my feedback. I remember stimulating and pleasant conversations with Karl.  From the very beginning, it was very clear to me that Karl was an easy-going, energetic and well-educated man who could communicate using a simple but not simplified language.  I liked him from the first moment we were introduced to each other, and he will be sorely missed, now that he is dead.

I was very close to Karl for many years in California. His irreverence, brilliance and curmudgeony nature enriched my life in endless ways. He was an enthusiastic hiking buddy, a powerful professional advocate of my HeroQuest adventure, and someone who's deep vulnerability with women touched my own.  Karl was the first person I wanted to talk to when I saw an intelligent film, or when an event occurred that required deft nuance in order to integrate.  I was privileged to witness his personal struggles and admired his ability to go as deeply into his emotions as he could with his intellect. 

He was a great friend, always up for a strange adventure, be it canoeing on the Eel river, traveling with me to Costa Rica, crashing a workshop, or some crazy dating event.  He entrusted me with a copy of his beloved memoir, which revealed yet another  side to him. I found his writing voice uncharacteristically light, humorous, and possessing an almost feminine poetic quality that revealed a relationship with beauty that I never knew he had.

In recent years my contact with him was limited to a few times a year after he moved to Texas, but each time we spoke it was as if time had not passed. I last spoke to him on Dec. 27, just 2 weeks before his death. He was still working in his father's business, archiving his legacy. 

I hope he finds the love that eluded him in this life.

I miss him dearly.

In November we had diner in the Woodlands and talked about this and that's of life and how things can go. A few days later you were in Houston on the conference and I was impressed by you continuous interest to learn. The silent goals you had set, the different perspective you looked to things.
Shocked by the news of your death puts me back, both feet on the ground. Things go that fast. No control. Our sympathy goes to the family Kracklauer and the of Team at Sparkler Filters with the loss of an amiable men

Dear Karl,

How sad for me to see that your iron stature has given way to a soft big heart. So delighted though, to see that you had lots of smiles and family in your last years. Moving to Conroe must have been the right thing to do. I do hope you finished a book, if there was one I want a copy to remember you by :)...I know we will meet again in other lives and continue to explore common interests. Thank you for including me into your life ,(life long), I will always remember that trip to Germany. May your soul find peace and complete rest along with our mutual friend, Deborah, who passed just last year. Do Love you like my brother.

To me, he was always Chuck -- never heard him called Karl.  His first influence on me was to get me to read Catcher in the Rye.  We spent a great two weeks in his birthplace, Mondelein, one summer and had another memorable cross-country bus trip to California as teenagers.  We had endless discussions about everything either one of us had ever heard of and his whole family was delightful and interesting.  He is most famous in our family for discovering "The Kracklauer Rule" which states the following: "If you're turning (in your car) in front of a stationary object and you think you can make it without hitting the object, you always can."  This rule has never failed any of us.

Can't believe you're dead.  I saw you only a few weeks ago, and you seemed perfectly fine.  We always had so much to discuss.  We still have plenty to discuss, which now I guess will have to wait.  

If there's an afterlife:  say hello to Grandma and Grandpa, and hope there's a limitless library up there? out there? to help you keep up with everything you're interested in.  If reincarnation is real:  come back as a house cat for Chris and me to adopt and Shayna and Brujo to befriend.

You will be sorely missed and always remembered.
