James Kenneth “Nick” Nichols passed away on July 18th in Conroe, Texas. Nick was born on April 12, 1938, in Montgomery, Texas. Nick worked for 39 years for Austin Bridge Company as a project superintendent, where he worked on jobs from the Houston Ship Channel, to railroad bridges across the country. Nick served as an Elder in the Toledo Bend Church of Christ for decades and was an active participant in the National Evangelism With Sojourners (NEWS). Nick traveled as a Sojourner, volunteering in various children’s homes in Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lois Nichols, and siblings Buck, Dan, Wayne, Dorothy, and Helen. He is also preceded by his wife of 59 years Betty Earline Nichols and their daughter, Elizabeth Ann Knighten.
Nick is survived by his wife, Charlotte Nichols, his children, James Anthony and Beth Ann Nichols of Conroe, Texas, Kemith and Jenny Nichols of Nashville, Tennessee, and Susan Nichols and Cheryle Corn of Phoenix, Arizona. Nick is survived by grandchildren, Dwain and Sandy Wade, James and Jessica Nichols, Bruce Nichols, Kristen and Mike O’Brien, Lizette and Royce Eggleston, Jacob Nichols, Rebekah and Danny Pomohaci, and Nathan and Angela Nichols. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and church friends.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday September 23rd at the Rabon Chapel Church of Christ. Visitation starts at 1 PM and the memorial service starts at 2 PM.
