The seventh of nine children, Kix was born at “Lamp’s Camp”—a logging camp named after his father (the foreman) in what is now the Sam Houston National Forest. In 1943, he and 61 classmates graduated from Conroe High School where Kix was the class president. After serving in the Army Air Corps for three years during World War II, he married Bobbie Jo Ralston. He taught in Conroe ISD for 22 years and was the principal of Anderson Elementary for 11 years before retiring in 1989. Kix was a long-time member of the Conroe Friendly City Kiwanis Club and served as an elder at Conroe Church of Christ for 43 years. Known as “Papa” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kix leaves a strong legacy as a loving patriarch and faithful servant of the Lord. He enriched the life of all who knew him and he will be greatly missed.
