Jerry is survived by his son, Eric Hiegert of Leander, TX, daughter, Rebekah Atkins of Splendora, TX, daughter, Rachel Atkins of Williston, ND, stepson, Dwayne Atkins of Splendora, sister, Barbara Cooper of Lexington, TX, sister, Trish Paquet of Livingston, TX, brother, Billy Atkins of Houston, TX, grandchildren, Jayde, Ethan, Hailey, Havana, Aaron, as well as great grandchildren, Kylan, Kynslee and one on the way.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Atkins, father, William Henry Atkins, mother, Letha Pearl McMullen, sister, Joyce Atkins of Splendora, TX, brothers, Charles Atkins of Conroe, TX, John Atkins of Conroe, TX, and grandson, Robbie Torres.
Jerry was born in Houston, Texas, his family moved to Splendora, Texas where he graduated high school in 1968. Jerry went on to serve as an Electronics Technician in the United States Navy from 1968 through 1972 where he received a National Defense Medal. Jerry worked as a United States Postal Carrier from 1987 through 2015, receiving many awards for his dedicated services.
Jerry had the kindest heart and found great joy in his family, gardening and tending to his yard. He had an unwavering faith in God which set a strong foundation of values and beliefs for himself and his children. Jerry was thoughtful and caring, always greeting the ones he loved with a smile and a hug. He loved to walk in his yard, cutting flowers for his wife, daughters, and granddaughters. Although Jerry could be stubborn and hardheaded at times, he was also lighthearted and loved to laugh and joke around with his kids and grandkids. Jerry will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 1 pm and the Funeral Service will begin at 2 pm at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas, 77303. A graveside service will occur Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 3 pm at Garden Park Cemetery, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303.
Serving as Pallbearers are Ethan Goga, Chris Baugh, Aaron Atkins, Colten Long, Devin Smitherman and Dwayne Atkins.
