Daniel W. Hammel Jr was born November 8, 1928 in Chester, Illinois and passed away October 8, 2018 in Montgomery, Texas at the age of 89. Daniel was well known in the Conroe area, always had a smiling face, enjoyed helping others and enjoyed life. He worked in the Sporting Goods Department at Walmart for many years where he built many relationships with his customers and employees. Daniel proudly served his country for four years in the US NAVY during WWII and served four years in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was a loving Father and Grandfather, and loved seeing his family. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel William Hammel Sr and Mary Surman Hammel; and wife, Christa Hammel. He is survived by his daughter, Karen Roney of Aurora, Colorado; sisters, Yvonne Penford of Chester, Illinois and Wilma Hammel of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren, Kristin Aschoff and Kevin Roney; great grandchildren, Calvin Aschoff, Vivien Aschoff and Deacon Roney. A Celebration of Life service will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Friday, November 2, 2018 in the reception room from 11am-1pm. Military Honors will follow in the Garden Park Mausoleum.
