Clarence John “CJ” Sopchak, age 86, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his beloved family on Friday, November 19, 2021. He was born April 10, 1935, in Richmond, Texas to Bruno and Martha Sopchak.
Clarence grew up in Houston, Texas and joined the Marines at an early age and was primarily based in Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the Marines, he returned home to Houston where he met and married his wife, Patricia. After learning the plumbing trade from his uncle, Louis Sopchak, he moved the family to New Waverly, Texas where he operated The Green Top Tavern for 5 years. He then moved to Conroe in 1969, purchased the Pabst Blue Ribbon Distributorship and later opened his own plumbing business, Star Plumbing Company. As a master plumber, he mentored several young men who eventually opened their own plumbing company.
He held the position of Grand Knight in the New Waverly, Texas Knights of Columbus council and was an honorary member after serving 40 years. He loved traveling with friends and family, boating, fishing, golfing and snow skiing. In addition, he enjoyed riding the open road on his Honda Goldwing motorcycle and participated in Chapter D of the Honda Goldwing Association.
Clarence was preceded in death by his son, Donald R. Sopchak, father, Bruno S. Sopchak, mother, Martha D. Sopchak-Schindler, brother, Eugene B. Sopchak, and sisters, Delores M. LeRoy and Barbara M. Yorek. He is survived by his loving wife Patricia C. Dunegan-Sopchak, son, Darrell W. Sopchak and his wife, Elaine, daughter, Debora A. Champagne and her husband, Steve, daughter, Diane R. McMayon, daughter, Carolyn M. Nanney and her husband, Earl, 10 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, November 28, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary Service to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas.
