Betty Brown Martin passed away peacefully on August 12, 2022, in The Woodlands, Texas. Betty was born on August 22, 1933, in Opelousas, Louisiana to John A. Brown and Edith Sudduth Brown. She graduated Opelousas High School and Southwest Louisiana Institute (University of Louisiana at Lafayette) with a degree in Education. Betty married Keith Frazier Martin on May 29, 1954, beginning a long and happy marriage for over 50 years until Keith’s passing in 2005. Over the years, they lived in Krotz Springs, LA, Palestine, TX, Houston, TX, Alexandria, LA finally settling in Shenandoah, TX.
Betty, like her mother, was an educator and taught in several schools for over 28 years. After she retired, she found her special place in the nursery at Crossroads Baptist Church in The Woodlands where she spent over 11 years taking loving care of many littles ones who she called “her babies”. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to many. She’ll be remembered for her kindness, generosity and famous sausage balls and Santa’s whiskers cookies that she made every Christmas.
Betty is predeceased by her husband, father, mother and brother, John A. Brown, Jr. She is survived by her son, Ron Martin and wife Susan, daughter Sharon Weinman and husband Kris and six grandchildren, Michael Martin, Andrew Martin, Patrick Martin, Katherine Martin, Connor Weinman and Hannah Weinman.
A memorial service will be held at Crossroads Baptist Church on August 26, 2022, at 10:00 am. A reception in the church’s main gathering room will follow immediately after the service.
