Arlene Ann Miessler was born September 9th, 1934 in Cheyenne, WY and died December 11th, 2024 in Conroe, TX. Arlene grew up in Lampasas, TX with her parents, sister, and brother. This is where she learned her love for music, becoming accomplished in piano and organ. She attended Lampasas High School where she was a clarinetist and bass drummer in the Badger Band, and was voted the Band Sweetheart her senior year. She was also involved in homemaking arts and hospitality.
After graduation, Arlene entered the Hermann Hospital School of Nursing. She received her RN degree in 1955 while attending the University of Houston where she earned her B.S. in Nursing. In 1954, Arlene was set up on a blind date where she met a tall Texas Aggie named Tom; she could wear heels and he was still taller than her. Arlene and Tom married on June 23rd, 1956, and had their son Ray in 1957, daughter Pat in 1959, daughter Gretchen in 1962, and son Tom Jr. in 1964. Arlene and Tom made their home in East Houston where they raised their children until they moved to Spring, TX in 1969.
Arlene was a do-er. If you wanted something done, everyone knew Arlene would help take care of it. She had active roles in her church, serving as the pianist/organist, a member of various committees, and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Women. She worked as a school nurse at Smiley High School, and taught vocational nursing classes. Arlene ran Oak Ridge Fabrics from 1975-1984, supplying fabric and accessories to the local high schools. After retirement, Arlene and Tom spent many years RV-ing and traveling the world.
Arlene was preceded in death by her mother Betsy, father Albert, sister Nancy, and grandson, James Turner. Arlene is survived by her husband Tom, son Ray & wife Joni, daughter Pat, daughter Gretchen & husband Philip, and Tom Jr. & wife Ying; grandchildren Ray II & wife Kelli, Catrina & husband Steven, Monica, Luke & wife Jocelyn, Cy & wife Cindy, and Andrew; great grandchildren Jaslyn, Carlos, Jaycee, Jaelynn, Jaxen, William, and “My Baby” Elowyn; brother Lee & wife Jackie; and many other family members.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 20, 2024 at 2:00pm in Cashner Colonial Hall with burial to follow in Garden Park Cemetery.
