In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Rhoda Laffon; son, Clinton Eugene Laffon; brothers, Howard Laffon, Odell Laffon, Marshall Laffon; sisters, Rosie Heavner, Rachel Marshall; and grandson, Alan Clayton Parker.
Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a veteran of the US Army. While serving in Korea in 1952, Gene was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. After service, he married Rhoda Price in 1954. Gene worked as a craftsman at Bassett Furniture for 45 years before retirement. He loved making wooden crosses. A special cross he made was from a Christmas tree.
Those left to cherish Gene’s memory are daughter, Debra Parker (Tony); daughter-in- law, Teresa Laffon; sisters, Geraldine Witherspoon (Louis), Diane Dill; grandchildren, Kelly Parker, Christy Stowe (Jason), Callie Laffon, Chase Laffon, Cadyn Laffon (Lindsey); great grandchildren, Jace Stowe, Cohen Laffon, and Cade Laffon.
The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center on Sunday, November 3, 2024 from 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm at Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2035 Old Conover-Startown Rd, Newton, NC 28658.
A Funeral Service for Gene will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Old St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Andrew Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
