Born August 21, 1954 in Iredell County, he was the son of the late Thomas Alonzo Jones and Annie Herman Gilbert.
Jonathan was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school and served as an elder and trustee. He was also a Boy Scouts of America leader. Jonathan retired from the NCSBI and from the Catawba County Sherriff’s office. He was a recipient of numerous awards in his long law enforcement career, including the Order of the Long Leaf Pine award. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
In addition to his parents, Jonathan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Challie and Mary Belle Jones, and Fred and Minnie Herman; stepfather, Charles Bennett Gilbert; and nephew, Wayland Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Deborah Kaylor Jones; son, Adam Kaylor Jones and wife, Alice; daughter, Rev. Anne Jones Martin and husband, Max; brother, Thomas Jones and wife, Brenda; brother-in-law, Ronald Kaylor, Jr. and wife, Susan; father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Frances Kaylor; nieces, Laura Gerstle and Jennifer Jones; nephew, Jacob Kaylor; and dear friends, Charles Franklin Connor III and Betty McCree Jones.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover with Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial to follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
