After completing his education at Newton-Conover High School, he attended NC State University (or State College, as he called it). Horace embarked on a successful career in the transportation sector. From 1959 to 1979, he was at the helm of Isenhower Transfer and Storage. He went on to found New-Con Leasing, Inc. and co-found New-Con Transportation with his son.
Horace was a 4th generation member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, NC. His life was characterized by generosity to his community and a deep devotion to his family and countless friends. Horace had a heartfelt fondness for Catawba County, his lifelong home.
Passionate about auto racing, Horace supported budding racers at Hickory Motor Speedway and was an inaugural member of the Speedway Club at Charlotte Motor Speedway. His involvement in the sport also included owning a successful Busch Grand National Team. In addition to racing, Horace found joy in golfing with friends at Catawba Country Club, participating in the annual Cup of Good Cheer gathering, and supporting the American Saddlebred Horse Association throughout his life. Horace was a proud founding member of the Conover Swim Club, today known as Conover Pool. He also enjoyed antiquing and had a great love for classic cars. In his later years, he delighted in long lunches with friends at H & W Drugstore and Diane's Dairy Center.
His memory will be cherished by his children Lisa Forsyth (Sean), Horace J. Isenhower III (Joe), and Brad Isenhower (Kelly); his beloved grandchildren Jordan Tabor, Catherine Eick (John), Christen Nuzum (Mason), Kelsey Dellinger (Clayton), Nick Isenhower (Rachel), and Karlie Isenhower, and great-grandchildren Abigail, Charlotte, and Hadley; and his sister, Elizabeth Allen (Donald).
