David William Hollar, age 85, of Catawba, NC, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Born October 22, 1927, in Alexander County, he was the son of the late Henry W. Hollar and Gether Jane Duncan Hollar. David was an active member of Mt. View United Methodist Church in Claremont, NC, serving on various committees and teaching Sunday school. He was a former member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory, where he actively served as a deacon and on several committees. David was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was the owner of Georgette Hosiery and was the former plant manager of Carolina & Southern Associated Mills in Newton. David was an honorable man who was very polite, loving, compassionate and respected by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Seitz Hollar; sisters, Mary Roper, Mildred Starnes, Grace Hildebran, and grandson, Michael Rabb.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Georgia Sigmon Murray Hollar of the home; daughters, Carol Ledford and husband, Gary, of Hickory, Kimberly Rabb and husband, Phil, of Catawba; grandchildren, Michael Ledford of Raleigh, Jonathan Ledford of Raleigh, Eric Rabb of Catawba; brothers, James Hollar of Hickory, Larry Hollar of Newton; sisters, Shirley Hildebran of Salisbury, Irene McCrary of Dudley Shoals, and Linda Wright of Hickory. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. View United Methodist Church in Claremont with Reverend Rich Irwin officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Ken Wright, Freddy Sharpe, Donny Houston, Ronnie Wesson, Kole Street, and Mark Wesson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. View United Methodist Church, 1248 Balls Creek Road, Claremont, NC 28610.
