Carol Joyce (Luke) Hollar

She graduated from Pittsford High School, and studied Elementary Education at Capital University, Columbus, Ohio. While there, she met Bill and they were married on August 24, 1963. She has been a faithful and loving wife during the fifty years of his ministry. After raising four children, she worked for Peoples Bank, Rocky Mount, N.C., becoming a branch manager. Later, she worked fifteen years for AT&T in different locations of New Jersey. As a pastor’s wife she often volunteered in churches where Bill served, as Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, organist, pianist, Bible study leader, church choir member, women’s group member, and other activities.

In retirement, she was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Claremont, N.C., where she served on the Altar Guild, Church choir, women’s circle, quilting mission, and made prayer shawls.

Carol enjoyed traveling, as she and Bill traveled in five continents and across the U.S. Her hobbies included knitting, Sudoku and other puzzles, and outdoor activities.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Henry Luke.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Pastor William Hollar; daughter, Dawn Weisenberger and son-in-law, Jay of Pineville; sons, David and daughter-in-law Sue of Washington, DC, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Jackie of Reading, PA, Michael and daughter-in-law Ivanna of Washington, DC; grandchildren, Andrew Weisenberger, Megan Weisenberger, Perri Hollar, Erin Hollar, Ella Hollar, Vasco Hollar, and Justine Hollar; mother, Dorothy Luke of Sodus, NY; brother, Douglas Luke and sister-in-law Gail of Clyde, NY; sister-in-law, Freda Spaulding and husband Roy of Olympia, WA; brother-in-law Robert Hollar of Conover; and many nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran cemetery. A memorial service for Carol will be held at a future date when it is safe for all.
