Bill was born January 3, 1930 and was the second eldest son of Sidney Durant (S.D.) Sherrill, Sr. and Rosa Lee Parlier Sherrill of Catawba County. Bill served as a staff sergeant during the Korean War and was owner of the Amoco/Sunoco service station that was in downtown Newton. In 1972, he joined the Catawba County Schools as a bus mechanic serving in that role until his retirement. A dedicated volunteer, Bill was a member of the Newton Fire Department for 20 years, a Life Member of Newton Optimist, and an active member of the Methodist Men at First United Methodist Church in Conover.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Kay Cline Sherrill; and brother, S.D. Sherrill, Jr.
Survivors include his son, Jeff Sherrill and wife, Lisa, of Sterling, Virginia; brothers, Don Sherrill and wife, Shelba, of Conover, and Jim Sherrill and wife, Shirley, of Newton; and sister-in-law, Thelma Sherrill of Newton; grandchildren, Ashley Sherrill and Matt Sherrill; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Conover. Reverend Mickey Moree will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
