He was born at home on June 23, 1933, in Fayette County Indiana to Albert Jacob Snyder and Madeline Ann Hilbert Snyder. He accepted the Catholic faith of his family and was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, where he also attended grade school.
For those who knew him, he was kind and patient. John enjoyed being with his family and friends. He loved good cooking, laughing, and telling stories. John was a world traveler, visiting 11 countries and numerous states. He enjoyed his garden, fruit trees and grape vines as well as harvesting his produce. John worked on all small and large engines and took delight when got them running again. He was a loving husband, father grandfather and great-grandfather.
John was a 1952 graduate of Connersville High School. He married Mina June McKinley on September 18, 1954, in Jellico, Tennessee. They raised three daughters, Kim (Dennis) Ashworth of Union, Kentucky, Connie (Eric) Morse of Georgetown, Kentucky and Kara (Thomas) Henry of Connersville. He has two grandsons, Ryan (Caitlyn) Ashworth of Hebron, Kentucky and Greg (Caitlin) Ashworth of Union, Kentucky; four great-granddaughters, Eliza June, Eleanor Grace, Avery Lynn and Nora Irene; two brothers, Howard (Shirley) Snyder and Don (Midge) Snyder of Connersville, Indiana; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He worked on his parent’s farm until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1956. John was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas for basic training and then was sent to Gelnhausen, Germany for duty from 1956 to 1958. His wife Mina and daughter Kim joined him there. He returned to the states and continued his service in the Army Ready Reserve for six years. John was employed by Design and Manufacturing beginning in 1959 and worked there for 36 years until they closed. While working there, he attended Ivy Tech, and became a Certified Waste Water Treatment Plant Operator.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00p.m., Monday, October 16, 2023, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Stan Howard officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to The Fayette County Animal Shelter, Connersville, Indiana. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Garden of Memories. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 11:00a.m, until 2:00p.m.
