John L. “PapaCal” Callahan, 58, of Connersville died Thursday, May 10, 2018 at his residence.
A Connersville native, John was born July 14, 1959 to Donald J. and Ann Kramer Callahan. He attended Connersville area schools, graduating from Connersville High School in 1977 and joining the United States Army in 1978. John retired from Visteon and its predecessors after twenty three years of employment. He also owned and operated Cal’s Body Art, his tattoo studio. John greatly enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and photographing various bands that he followed on tour, including the local band, Kramus. Toward the end of his life, he lived as a witness to Christ.
In addition to his parents, Donald J. and Ann Callahan of Connersville; John is survived by his daughters: Amy Halcomb of Connersville and Sammie Wicks of Camden, Ohio; his grandchildren: Joshua Hensley, James Hensley, Meghan Maxie, Makensie Maxie, Kyler Callahan and Olivia Wicks; his brothers and their spouses: James D. Callahan and Lisa; Jeffery A. Callahan and Mary, all of Connersville; his nephew: Seth Callahan and his niece: Desiree Callahan.
John was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: John and Ann Kramer and his paternal grandparents: Estil and Grace Callahan.
A Memorial Service to Celebrate John’s Life will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1201 N Grand Ave, Connersville, with Pastor Mal Gibson officiating. Friends may visit at the church Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society.
