Bill grew up in Topsfield, MA, and graduated from Masconomet High School and Beverly Trade School. The strong work ethic his father instilled in him was already apparent then, and it served him well throughout his life. It was always important to him that he did his best and was known wherever he went for doing exceptional work. He brought that attention to detail to his jobs throughout his career, especially to his latest position at Eastern Auto Body, a place he felt was a good fit for his skills and interests.
When he moved to NH, he met his wife, Terri (Hackney) Lane, and they were married on October 10, 2004. They have two beautiful daughters, Lauren and Rachael, who were the loves of his life. He enjoyed watching them participate in their various activities, and spending time with his girls and teaching them lessons they would carry with them for life was very important to him. He was impressed with the clever comments Rachael would always say, and Lauren and Bill bonded over their shared love of music – another big part of Bill’s life.
He will be remembered as a funny and animated storyteller. A natural entertainer, Bill loved making people laugh – often at his own expense. The tales he shared were about his work, his life, his childhood, and his beloved family. Terri often noticed how some stories were like ‘fish tales’ because the details would grow more and more each time he told them.
Bill had a positive impact on the lives of so many people. Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin, he cared deeply about family. Additionally, so many people considered Bill a good friend; he was reliable, devoted, charismatic, talented and creative, and had a smile that was contagious.
Bill was definitely a car enthusiast - they were not just his line of work, but a pastime. He could tell the year, make, model and specs of any car that happened to pass him by. He enjoyed a classic car show and he went with Terri and the girls to many.
With his passion for music and entertaining he played the bass in several bands. He was proud to tell people his grandfather taught him how to play the guitar when he was young. Many of Bill’s stories about playing in a band ended with him humming a tune to help his audience get the most out of the tale. He loved all music, if he could play and tap his foot to the beat, he was happy.
Other passions Bill had included martial arts, riding motorcycles, painting vehicles and motorcycles, and just the simple things in life.
Bill is survived and missed by his wife Terri, children Lauren and Rachael, parents Michael O. and Carole Lane, aunt Kristina Smith, brother Michael D. Lane, sister Lisa Parsons (husband John), nephew Andrew Lane (wife Samantha), niece Katie Lane, great nieces, cousins, extended family and close friends. Bill is predeceased by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and life-long family friends.
