Richard (“Dick”) Albert Kruger passed away peacefully at Concord Hospital, Concord NH, on the evening of October 20, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in North Haverhill, NH, on November 15, 1943 to Albert and Doris Kruger.
Dick played baseball and basketball throughout his youth in Littleton and Plymouth NH, North Adams MA and Waterbury CT. In 1958 he moved to Concord NH, where he attended Concord High School and played baseball, basketball, and football. After graduating in 1961, he went on to play baseball for the San Francisco Giants AA team for 3 years in Lakeland FL, Fresno CA, and Decatur IL. In 1964 he moved back to Concord with his wife and son, where he worked with his father at Kruger Construction.
Dick eventually went on to sponsor race car driver, Ricky Craven, early in his career. He also worked as a pit crew member, and in 1991, The Craven Team won the Busch Grand National North Championship.
After that, Dick built a go-kart track, 106 Racepark, in Pembroke NH, along with a hobby shop and slot car race track inside his construction business. Some of those young go-kart racers, like Casey Call, Max Dolliver, and Austin Theriault, went on to big-time racing. In 2011 he decided to spend winters in Florida, but Dick continued working summers in NH for Young's Paving up until his passing....he loved their nice, new trucks!!
Dick leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy (“Dottie”) Kruger, sons David Kruger and Jeff Kruger; daughters Kim Porter and Kandi McCoo; daughters-in-law Shannon Kruger and Stacy Kruger; sons-in-law Billy Porter and Mark McCoo; grandchildren, Jessica Rodenheizer, Jayce Kruger, Alexandra Kruger, Sean Kruger, and Nick Kruger; and great grandchildren Henry and Jack Rodenheizer.
Informal calling hours will be held at Bennett Funeral Home in Concord, NH, on November 16th from 12:00 p.m. To 2:00 p.m., where friends and family can gather to share their stories in celebration of his life.
Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made in his name, to either Charlotte County Habitat for Humanity in Punta Gorda, Florida, or K9s for Veterans.
