Born in Concord she was the daughter of James and Kate (Shine) Clattenburg. She grew up on Mountain Road in East Concord surrounded by her large family and childhood friends; most of those friendships continuing throughout her lifetime.
Madeline graduated from Concord High School in 1944. She married Frank Williams shortly after WWII and they soon started their family, living in Loudon NH. In 1960 they settled into her childhood community of East Concord, where they lived until 1988. Madeline and Frank moved to Bow where they lived with their daughter & son-in-law until their passing.
Busy raising a family of 6 children, she still found time to volunteer with organizations like the American Legion, East and South Congregational Church Women’s Fellowship, knitting bonnets and blankets for the babies at Concord Hospital. She was an accomplished seamstress and furniture upholsterer , caning chairs and hooking wool rugs with the ladies at Kate Clattenburg’s Thursday night Hookers Club.
Madeline was a Quality Assurance Inspector at Sprague Electric in Concord, retiring after 26 years. In their retirement, Madeline & Frank traveled to Florida in the winters, where they enjoyed visiting their many family members & friends. After Frank’s death in 1990, Madeline traveled with her daughters which she really truly enjoyed. Madeline was a wonderful travel companion, and spent many winters in Key West Florida, Jamaica and summers in Metamora Indiana. She was happily involved in whatever her children were doing, and she was a star baker at Mrs. Beasley’s Dog Treats for many years.
Her most admired quality was that of a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother. She is survived by her 6 children, Linda Fish and her husband Bill of Concord, Denise Sanel of Laurel, IN, Thomas Williams and his wife Paula of Pittsfield, Gregory Williams of Barnstead, Darlene Houghton and her husband Larry of Bow, Maydene Koppel and her husband Donald of Weare, 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
