Joseph “Joey” R. Piasek of Concord, NH passed away on December 12, 2024 due to declining health. He was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on August 30, 1952 to the late Morton and Hanka (Kaczala) Piasek, who were Jewish survivors of The Holocaust.
When Joey was five years old in 1957, his parents gave up their garment business in Montreal and moved to New York City, so Joey and his brother could attend the New York School for the Deaf in White Plains. He graduated in 1971.
He worked at odd jobs until he landed a position as a key punch operator at Dean Witter & Co. at the World Trade Center in New York City in 1974. In 1978, he went back to work at the U.S. Postal Office in Bronx, N.Y. In 1993 he transferred to the Manchester, N.H. branch, where he retired in 2006.
He was a member of the Fanwood Alumni Association (NY), Brooklyn (NY) Hebrew Society of the Deaf and NH Association of the Deaf for many years. He served as a board member of Manchester City Government from 2000 to 2003.
He enjoyed traveling with his wife of 21 years, Kathleen (O’Connell). He was a devoted owner of cats, dogs and ferrets and leaves behind two cats, Frankie and Ivy. What he loved most were his family and close friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Melissa nd her husband Kevin Dove; and Jaclyn Feder-Piasek and her partner Bret Ginther, as well as the mother of his daughters, Mona Feder, all of McCordsville, Indiana. He was a loving grandfather of Maelyn Dove, Kiera Dove, Javin Ginther and Benjen Ginther. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Piasek. He will be missed by his sister-in-law, Helen Piasek, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service is being planned at a later date.
