Eleanor D. Daroska

Eleanor attended a grammar school in a one-room school house in Chichester for all eight grades and graduated grammar school in 1936 after which she went to Rundlett Junior High and then on to Concord High School where she graduated in 1950.

Eleanor then worked for the State of New Hampshire for the Unemployment Compensation Department as a file clerk and later as a bookkeeping machine operator. She wrote checks for the unemployed and later for the Veterans returning from World War II.

In May of 1945, Benjamin Daroska and Eleanor were married at the Chichester Methodist Church and moved to Barnstead, New Hampshire, into a small, old fashioned home and farm. They lived there for fifteen years. Then they sold and purchased the home directly across the road from where Eleanor was born in Chichester where they resided for the next 45 years. Eleanor was a “stay at home Mom” and has no regrets.

As Benjamin was self-employed, with hired help, for many years Eleanor did his bookkeeping and filed his State and Federal tax forms.

Eleanor has always had an interest in sewing and made many clothes for the children and herself. She taught 4-H sewing for eleven years. She loved to read, do jigsaw puzzles, knit dishcloths for her family, crochet, quilt, and spend as much time with her family as possible. In 1979, Ben and Eleanor decided to try RVing. They belonged to a camping club and spent many a weekend camping with the club. They also took other great trips traveling the country with family and friends.

Eleanor was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years in March of 2006 and her and Benjamin’s son, Benjamin Jr. in August of 1967.

Her family members include her daughters, Gloria Lynn of Concord and Phyllis Ann of Chichester; a son, Norman Leavitt of Portsmouth; a sister, Rebecca Herbert of Chichester; seven grandchildren, Jenn, Jeff, Josh Ricker, Liz, Jessica and Abigail Leberman and Meagan Daroska; three step-grandchildren, Joshua, Michael and Brian and two great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Eleanor’s Life will be held at the Chichester United Methodist Church, 2 Canterbury Road Chichester, on Thursday, September 29th at 4:00 p.m. Followed by a committal service at the Leavitt Cemetery on Canterbury Road in Chichester.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
