Deborah (Deb) L. Nelson, 66, of Concord, NH passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Concord Hospital. The daughter of John B. and Mary Margaret (Gallant) Nelson born on September 24, 1953 in Concord.
A graduate of Concord High School and Norwich University. Deb worked as the manager at The Racquet Ball Club of Concord.
Members of her family include her brother, John “Jack” Nelson Jr.; several cousins and many friends.
Deborah was known to her family and friends as Debbie or Deb. She was a whirlwind of energy. She kept active and enjoyed continually learning, whether it was in arts and crafts, history or other subjects. Before she retired, she was the manager of the Racquet Club of Concord. She loved working with the members, chatting with them and being of service to the Concord community.
In her spare time as manager of the Racquet Club, she became a licensed massage therapist. She also incorporated Reiki, having become a Reiki II Practitioner, into her practice. Over the years, she studied herbalism Rosemary Gladstar, Margi Flint, Juliette de Bairacli Levy and many others, becoming a certified herbalist many years ago. Each summer for over 20 years she attended the Women's Herbal Conference.
Deb was an active member in spiritualist groups including the Spiritual Network in Concord, during the 70s and 80s, Starstruck in Concord and remained active with the Seacoast Astrology. She learned to play the djembe with Mary Lamenzo and Gail Williamson. She actively played in a small group during the 80s.
Debbie loved sports and played tennis, badminton and rugby in her younger years. She was a great team player and a fierce, but friendly, competitor. To this day, she never missed watching Wimbledon.
Deb also loved to travel. She visited friends in this country and overseas. Her last trip was to England and South Wales to see her dear friend, Wendy, in South Wales. She walked the hills of Wales, with ease, and enjoyed the history she learned during her stay.
Those activities were only a part of her life. The other major part were the animals she loved and who adored her. In her younger days, she rode horses and could tell you the history of various horse pedigrees. You never saw her without one of her companions, a golden retriever, by her side. Whether it was Homer, years ago, followed by Albee, followed by Bart and currently, Joe and Simon, Goldens were always in her life. She would take long walks, bring them with her on errands or just for a ride on back roads. Simon and Joe now reside in her brother's care.
Cats were also a part of her life, with one always nearby at home. Fiona, Junior, Lucy were just a few of those who were more recent cat friends.
Her sense of humor, curiosity, zest for life and kindness were virtues that many friends and acquaintances enjoyed. She will be greatly missed. Deb was a good friend and devoted to her family.
