Barbara Ordway passed away on August 6, 2022 after standing up to cancer for 17 years. Her determination and fight was derived from her love of her family, particularly her grandchildren. Always setting one more goal to see her grandchildren’s successes and milestones; just one more ball game, one more dance recital, one more graduation, one more birthday or one more Christmas.
Barbara was born in Franklin, NH to Alice (Hannan) and Myron “Mike” Bartlett. She grew up in Boscawen attending Penacook and Merrimack Valley schools. After completing her Secretarial and Business Administration training she worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of NH where she was employed in her profession for over 30 years. After her work at BC/BS, her ambition to help others led her to enroll in the LNA training program and was only the final exam away from receiving her LNA license when she was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2005.
She enjoyed crocheting and many other hand crafts that included making over 100 afghan blankets for friends, relatives and as donations through the church, the Payson Center for Cancer and others. Prior to her first diagnosis in 2005, she enjoyed traveling and cruising throughout the Caribbean, Mexico and one of her favorites, the Hawaiian Islands and Transpacific cruise. In addition to cruising, Las Vegas was another favorite vacation spot, a place to meet and enjoy friends she made during her cruises.
Barbara most cherished any family gathering whether a summer barbeque at an Aunt and Uncle’s, a get-together with cousins just to catch up, especially when one who had moved away and had returned to visit, summer vacations in York Beach, Maine with family or just hanging by the pool with her kids and grandkids. It didn’t matter the event, if family was there, she was there.
Barbara was pre-deceased by her mother Alice, father Mike, step-father Warren Kingsbury, a step-brother Warren “Skipper” Kingsbury and a step-sister, Kelly Kingsbury.
She is survived by her, husband Dennis Ordway, daughter Denise Paul and husband William, son Shane Ordway and wife Nikola and her most cherished grandchildren, Billy, Samantha and Madison Paul, Elijah, Oliver and Elyana Ordway, brother Richard Bartlett and his wife Bonny, two step sisters and their families, aunts and cousins
The family thanks the doctors, nurses and the entire staff at NH Oncology Hematology for the years of caring treatment and the Bow Police & Rescue Squad for their diligence on the day of her passing; especially Officer Nelson for his kindness and guidance.
