Susy, born on October 25, 1952, in Lancaster, Ohio, to Paul and Sally (Folk) Weiland, was the third of ten children. Known for her radiant smile, unwavering positivity, and boundless heart, Susy captured the essence of kindness and joy. She married the love of her life, Ron, on November 3, 1973, and for 51 remarkable years, he was her world and her unwavering rock. Together, they shared endless laughter and embarked on countless adventures, the greatest of which was parenting their son, Harry, born in 1980. In 2014, she was overjoyed (and quite possibly a little relieved) when he finally married Missy, whom she thought the world of.
Susy had an endearing love for children, her eyes sparkling at the sight of a child’s smile. The first to cradle any baby that came through the door, she adored her nieces, nephews, and each of Harry’s friends. She cherished being godmother to Heidi (Koch) Walker, David Koch, Emily Matheney, and Heather Jordan.
A lifelong animal lover, Susy’s passion for horses earned her national awards in 4H during her youth. Pets always held a special place in her heart, and her own dogs were beloved by friends and family alike.
Susy graduated from Lancaster High School in 1970 and enjoyed a fulfilling career as an Executive Secretary. Skilled in the ancient art of shorthand, and with the fastest typing fingers in the Midwest, she contributed her talents to Lazarus, Echrich, Borden, Bob Evans, and Mancuso Law Office, among others.
Susy will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Her infectious smile and joyous presence brightened every room she entered. Her wit and humor were razor-sharp, often goofy, and captivated everyone fortunate enough to engage with her. She held a PhD in embarrassing those she loved, achieving legendary status in the annals of family history. Whether it was her off-color remarks or her knack for telling the most mortifying childhood stories at the most inopportune moments, Susy had a gift for making everyone laugh and cringe simultaneously.
Susy was preceded in death by her father, Paul Weiland; sister, Paula (Weiland) Barnhardt; brother, Joe Weiland; nephew, Nicholas Weiland; brother-in-law, Mike Scott; cherished dogs, Beaky, Scruffy, Bowser, Bear, Cosmo; and tolerated cats, Spud Webb, and Shithead.
She is survived by her loving husband, Howard “Ron” Hoffman; son, Harold “Harry” (Melissa “Missy”) Hoffman; and mother, Sarah “Sally” Weiland. Her surviving siblings include Sally (Tony) Skunza, Kathy (Ron) Rowland, Mary (Darrell) Goss, Nancy (Don) Matheney, Paul (Kelly) Weiland, Dan Weiland, and Ed Weiland. Susy also leaves behind 21 adored nieces and nephews: Dan Skunza, Gabe Skunza, Andrew Rowland, Jennifer (Rowland) Appelfeller, Megan (Rowland) Seymore, Lauren (Goss) Rasca, Kristen (Goss) Ryan, Heath Weiland, Gavin Weiland, Amanda (Weiland) Lambert, Donald Matheney, Emily “Emmy” Matheney, Kylie (Matheney) Wright, Lexie Matheney, Christopher Weiland, David Weiland, Dalton Weiland, Heidi (Koch) Walker, David Koch, Heather (Koch) Clark, and Kara Scott.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 AM on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 684 S Third Street, Columbus, Ohio 43206. Interment will follow at Union Cemetery, Columbus, Ohio.
Susy was always eager to help others and pay it forward whenever she could. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Susy’s name to the Society of St. Vincent DePaul, an organization dedicated to serving the poor and needy, or to Capital City Hospice, who provided exceptional love and care for Susy in her final weeks.
