Sarah Jane Schmidt, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2018. Sarah was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 10th, 1920. She was the daughter of Frederick B. and Ida Rose (Alaxander) Daniels. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Jack G. Schmidt. Sarah is survived by her children Sarah Schmidt Austen, J. Daniel Schmidt and Jack G. Schmidt Jr.; grandchildren Lang D. Austen, Watts T. Austen, Guy A. Schmidt, Jett J. Schmidt, Jack G. Schmidt III, and Paulina M. Schmidt. She graciously lived through nearly a century of progress while stubbornly holding onto all of the things in life worth doing the old-fashioned way. Sarah was strong willed and well-read, never missing the opportunity to express her opinion, often times with just the right sideways glance. Sarah was an original feminist, fearlessly operating Jack Schmidt Oldsmobile from 1977-1995 with her two sons. She was a human map quest, able to navigate in and around Ohio’s back roads and state routes, the original “driving Miss Daisy.” Sarah was known for having a keen eye as an avid and deeply knowledgeable collector of antique objects - a gift she passed along to her children. Her will to live was only trumped by her life-long dedication to her beloved “Jack.” So much so, in true Sarah fashion, she passed away on what would have been their 72nd anniversary date. Let’s raise our glasses (Canadian club and seven-up on the rocks) to Sarah and Jack. Friends may call 4-7pm Friday, January 26th, at the SCHOEDINGER MIDTOWN Chapel, 229 E. State St., Columbus, OH 43215. Funeral service will be held the next day, Saturday, January 27th at 11:30am. Private Entombment at Green Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the OSU Ross Heart Hospital, 452 West 10th Ave, Columbus, OH 43210. To share a fond memory or condolence, please visit www.schoedinger.com.
