She made it to 100! Rose Vincenza Scarfia Kostynuk, age 100 and 1/6th, passed away on December 3, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on October 20, 1924 in Bronx, New York to the late Angelo and Benedetta (Caserta) Scarfia. She joins in death her parents; husband John T. Kostynuk; siblings Mary Nocito and Gabriel Scarfia as well as a host of other extended family members and many friends. Rose leaves behind her daughters Maryanne Kostynuk, Margate, Florida; Janet (Barry) McKew, Columbus and Kathy Trent, Columbus. Rose had three grandsons, Ian Miller, Chris Miller and Martin McKew, and three great grandchildren Georgie Miller, Cecilia Miller and Andrew Miller. Rose grew up in the Bronx and worked at the Equitable Life Insurance Company where, as a member of their choral group, she met her husband, John. Rose loved to sing and would continue to do so throughout her life. She worked in nursing for many years in New Jersey and Ohio. Rose was an avid gardener and volunteer. She volunteered for over 20 years at St. Anns Hospital and at St. Lawrence Haven feeding the poor. Rose liked to travel with her daughters and friends, and she went on many Catholic retreats. She was a member of St. Anthony church for many years. Rose will be deeply missed by all those that knew her. She is at peace. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday December 9, 2024 at St. Josephine Bakhita Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd., Columbus, Ohio 43229 with Fr. Pius Ajauluchukwu officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Resurrection Cemetery 9571 N. High Street, Lewis Center, Ohio.
