Roger A. Toops

Roger A. Toops, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. Roger was born on July 30, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio to Emery and Martha Jane Toops. He belonged to a car club where he loved to rebuild cars and won several trophies. Roger was very musical; he played the guitar and sang in many bands in the area. He loved all country music and 50's - 60's rock. Roger was a Sioux Indian, a descendant of Red Cloud and proud of it. Preceded in death by his parents, Emery Toops and Martha Jane Truex; infant daughter, Karen Toops; brother, Charles Toops; infant great grandson, Mavrick Toops; infant great granddaughter, Aubrey Roby and wife of 36 years, Sharon Toops. Survived by his wife, Vickie Finlinson; children, Ralph (Jill) Toops, Teresa (Rufino) Ortiz, Sharon Wise, Shirley (Dennis) Williamson, Roger (Dawn) Toops, Theresa (Danny) Grove, Kim (Mike) Kreuz, Robin Latoski, Mirranda (Sierra) Finlinson, Sherry Phillips-Red; granddaughter/daughter, Brandy Locklear; step-sons, Derrick and Dustin Lacey and Brandon Martinez; 37 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother, Russell Toops; best friends, Jack and Bev Leake; adopted brother, Bill (Jean) Briggs; many other relatives and friends. Family will receive visitors from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at Heart and Hope Funeral Home by Schoedinger, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. A private service of 25 people will be held in his honor on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at 10:00 am. Everyone can go in procession to Sunset Cemetery.
