Robert M. “Bob” Basford, age 89, of Upper Arlington, died Friday, July 16, 2010 at Trillium Place in Columbus. Bob was born on August 30, 1920 in Waterloo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Mabel Basford, his brother, Jack Basford, and his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth S. “Betty” Basford. He is survived by his children, Beverly of Columbus, Steven of Dublin and Mark of Upper Arlington, with whom he made his home, and his sister, Mariann Krueger of Waterloo, Iowa. He is also survived by nieces, Janet Clymer, Karen Krueger, and Cathy Howell, and nephews, Jim, David and Bruce Payton, Bill Krueger, John and Jerry Basford and their spouses and children. Bob served in the United States Army during World War II and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1947. He retired from Schottenstein Stores Corp. where he worked in the controller’s office for many years. He was a proud supporter of The Ohio State University Alumni Association, the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, the Upper Arlington Senior Center and Covenant Presbyterian Church, and formerly attended Crestview Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, Ohio. Private family interment to take place at Union Cemetery. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the Upper Arlington Fire Department, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Crown Pointe Care Center, HomeReach Hospice and Trillium Place for their care and compassion.
