Upon graduation from high school, Tom entered the U.S. Navy serving on the U.S.S. Tingey as a Helmsman during the Korean War.
After the war, Tom first gained employment with his father doing flooring until he was employed with Greyhound where he worked for over 20 years. Tom was very dedicated to his work.
When not working, he loved fishing, boating, and hunting. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and made a weekly breakfast trip to the East side to meet his Greyhound friends.
Tom was a lifetime NRA member, member of the Farm Bureau, the Masonic Lodge, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Columbus, and the VFW.
He was a supporter of the Cancer Society, Heart Foundation, and the Leukemia Society.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brother, John McEowen. Tom will be missed by his niece, Lynda (Rick) Downey and their children, Kelli Downey and Sherri (Jon Allen) Downey; and cousins.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, December 31, 2013 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 9:30 a.m. at Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Tom's family would like to extend a special thanks to Ohio Health Hospice, Debbie Busch, Phil Kiep, hospice Chaplain Marilyn Marshall -Goetz and all of the nurses who cared for him.
