Mary Alice (Callahan)Wharton, passed away peacefully at home on March 31, 2023. She was born January 25, 1923 in Columbus Ohio to Elmer and Edith Callahan and graduated from Central High School in 1940. She was proceeded in death by her husband, mother, father and two brothers Frank and Don Callahan.
Mary Alice worked at Ohio Bell early in life and later at the Lincoln Lodge Retirement Residence. She also volunteered at Doctors Hospital for over 40 years. She was a member of the Screen Actors Guild while making TV commercials and was featured in print advertisements. She made several appearances on Good Morning Market Place in Columbus Ohio.
Early in life she was a student of Stella Becker Dance Studio. Sang with Dean Martin and performed “Come to the Fair” at the opening ceremony of the Ohio State Fair at age 15. Later in her life she served as High Priestess of the Lady’s Oriental Shrine of North America. And was a member of the Shriner Line Ladys Dancers at Dance Rhythm Studio in her 80’s and 90’s. They performed at events including several retirement communities. She was a member of the Shriners Clown Unit and performed in character as Trudy. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Mary Alice was actively involved with the Southwestern City School District including room mother and Parent Teacher’s Associations while her own children were attending school. She also helped in the classroom and reading stories to students with her Granddaughters that are teachers in the district.
Mary Alice met the love of her life Richard (Joe) Wharton and they were married June 13, 1948. Together they raised three children; Diana Good, Patricia (Earl) Groves, Joe (Shelley) Wharton. Eight grandchildren; April (Chris) Frasure Melissa,(Greg) Cox, Natalie (Derrick) Sweeney, Alyson Townsend, Bryan (Justine) Wharton, Jessica (Otto) Vazquez, Jenna Littler and Josh Hutchinson. Nine great grandchildren; Taylor Frasure, Christian Frasure, Olivia Cox, Grant Sweeney, Emma Sweeney, Jordan Sweeney, Presley Townsend, Joseph Wharton and June Wharton. Also survived by several Nieces, Nephews and friends. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank moms Niece Leslie Sanders, and Great-niece Amy Sanders, along with Sharyn Morrison, Terry Smith, Mick McGuire, Jack and Jane Nunley, Beverly Nickel for their loving help in taking care of mom.

Honoring mom’s wishes there will be a private graveside service on April 11, 2023 followed by a Celebration of Life with friends and family at the American Legion located at 1571 Demorest Road beginning at 3pm to 7pm.
