Mary Lou Hoover, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Crown Pointe Care Center. She was born in Marion, Ohio, on August 22, 1927, to the late Charles and Nita Carpenter, and grew up on a farm with her seven siblings. She graduated from Leesburg-Magnetic High School in 1945, and from The Ohio State University in 1949. She worked for more than 20 years as a secretary for the United Church of Christ, and she was an active member of North Congregational United Church of Christ. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Rev. William “Ossie” Hoover; and siblings, Donald Carpenter, Robert Carpenter, and Dorothy Garwood. She is survived by children, Carol (Phil) Biefnes, Paul Hoover (Bob Harris), and Christine (Mark)Hutchinson; siblings, James (Laura) Carpenter, Ruth Goedicke, Carol (Bill) Hosterman, and William (Donna) Carpenter; grandchildren, Tyler and Niki; and special niece, Sue Carpenter. Mary Lou loved spending time with her family at their monthly potlucks, and she enjoyed knitting, gardening, and classical music. A Memorial Service will be held 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at North Congregational United Church of Christ, 2040 Henderson Road, Columbus, with Pastor Eric Williams officiating.
