Preceded in death by mother, Dorothy (MacEwan) Cashner and by father, Robert MacEwan Sr. Also preceded in death by brother, Bob MacEwan.
Marilyn grew up in Upper Arlington, Ohio, where she was a proud member of UA’s class of ’55. She was an active member of First Community Church and enjoyed being with friends at Camp Akita. Marilyn attended Ohio State and San Francisco State U. She lived in many places, often related to her work with the United States Department of Immigration, including San Antonio, Houston, Buffalo, San Francisco, and Washington D.C. Throughout her career, she also had assignments in international affairs working on refugee and asylum policy work in Rome, training others in Georgia, and serving at Guantanamo Bay. Everywhere Marilyn went, she took her keen interest in people and a heart for serving others. She was an avid animal lover, especially black labs. Upon retirement, Marilyn moved first to Lake of the Woods, VA, and then back to Ohio to settle in Lebanon, Ohio to be near family. With each move, Marilyn became actively involved in her community, most recently in Lebanon at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, the Lions Club, and service work like Habitat for Humanity.
Marilyn (beloved “Auntie M”) is survived by her nieces, Lynne (Larry) Hutchinson and Molly (John) Winters; great nephews, Paul and Scott Hutchinson, Doug and David Winters; and her special extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church, 232 E. Main Street, Lebanon, OH 45036. Private interment at Union Cemetery. If friends so wish, they may contribute in Marilyn’s memory to: St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, or a charity of your choice.
