Julia graduated with a Home Economics degree from Wilmington College. She used those skills to raise her family that she loved beyond measure. She loved sewing for her family and making items for Trinity United Methodist Church Treasure Trove and being involved in the women’s Bible study. Julia loved working at Highlights for Children and made many lifelong friends there. She loved wintering in Sarasota on Lido Key, walking the beach in search of shells and sand dollars. She loved to shop, walking the circle at St. Armand’s Key. She was a loyal patron of The Sarasota Opera, quite often lunching and attending with dear friends. She had a close group of women that she loved to play bridge with, and when she had a good hand, we would all hear about it. Julia was very proud of her membership in the Daughter’s of the American Revolution.
Julia will be greatly missed by her sister, Jeanie Rice and brother Jack (Jeannie) Persinger, her children Judy Laning, Carol (Bruce) Savage, Jill (Frank) Hess, Mike (Joy) Cummings, Mark (Kim) Cummings. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Mike, Celeste, Molly, Amy, Grant, Nicole, Frankie, Will, Sarah, Abby, Emily, Lindsey, Mitchell and 8 great-grandchildren.
If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider giving to CTF.Org
The family suggests that you make a toast in her memory of Maker’s Mark and Ginger Ale which was her favorite drink.
