Josephine Eileen Poole passed away on December 1, 2019. She was born on April 21, 1925, to William Covan and Mildred Whitmer. Josephine (Jo) and her siblings lived in a children's home for a short period of time because her father passed away and her mother was ill. Brother John was adopted by another family during the Great Depression. They later found John and were reunited in 1969. Jo named herself when she started school at age 6 because the school required a name. Up until then, she was referred to as "Babe." Her mother started a restaurant on Broad Street in Columbus, OH. She worked there with her sisters. Maybe it was at the restaurant that she developed her famous love of desserts. She went on to work as a realtor for 27 years. Jo loved her family deeply, as they loved her. She was the ultimate snow bird, spending winters in Florida forming a large group of friends, visiting the beach, and playing bingo to her heart's content. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years and a member of the Red Hat Club. She is preceded in death by her beloved husbands, Earl Leroy Graves and C. Michael Poole; beloved sisters Eloise Dotson, Dolly Halsey, and Dora Sharp; beloved brothers William Covan and John Sapp; and great-granddaughter Kristi Feazel. Jo is survived by her beloved brother Art (Lynn) Covan; beloved children Jerry (Tracy) Graves, Denise (Ted) Edwards, Ron (Cynthia) Graves, and David (Valorie) Graves; beloved grandchildren John Graves, Caroline (Scott) Allen, Kelly (Chris) Giany, Wendy Feazel, Adam (Nikki) Puckett, Ronnie (Maryanne) Graves, Amanda (Anton) Peng, Leigh (Jinda) Graves, Troy Graves, Shaina (Clyde) Wallace, and Chrissiana Lafon; beloved great-grandchildren Daniel (Kaylin) Graves, Nathan Graves, Alexander Lafon, Desiree Musser, CJ, Mason, and Aubrey Allen, Tyler (Nicole) Thompson, Joey and Nicole Giany, Samantha (Josh) Landis, Heather Reese, Jack Feazel, Ayden, Henry, and Michael Puckett, Gavin, Boden, and Vivian Graves, Eliana and Bennett Peng, Luke Santos, CJ, Jonah, and Wesley Styers, Devin, Colton, and Leah Wallace; and beloved great-great grandchildren Able, Isaiah, and Elijah Thompson, Ava and Grayson Landis, and Diana and Athena Giany.
Visitation will be 2-4pm and 6-8pm on Wednesday, December 4 at Schoedinger Funeral Home (1051 E Johnstown Rd, Columbus, OH 43230). The funeral service will be held at 10am on Thursday, December 5 at the funeral home followed by interment at Forest Lawn (5600 East Broad Street, Columbus, OH, 43213). Following the burial, a luncheon will be served at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4686 East Walnut Road, Westerville, OH, 43081.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Hospital and Kobacker House for their care and the comfort they provided Jo and her family. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to Faith Mission or Kobacker House.
