Joseph Sutton was born in Thomaston, Georgia on March 30, 1943, to the late Roy Sutton (Sr.) and Fannie (Knight) Sutton. Joseph was the third of five children and when Joseph was a toddler the Sutton family migrated to Columbus, OH. While Joseph has resided in Naples, Florida he has always considered Columbus home.
Joseph Sutton departed this life on December 17, 2024, in Naples, Florida.
Joseph was educated in the Columbus Public School System. He ran and lettered in track before graduating from Central High School. While growing up, Joseph acquired the drive and work ethic displayed by his father. At a young age he secured a Barber’s License, became Co-Owner/Operator of several Gas Stations, and Semi Truck Driver for Duff Trucklines.
Joseph’s love and passion quickly became Real Estate Investments, Renovations, and Sales. Joseph went on to acquire a Real Estate License and realized his dreams almost 40 years as Sole Owner/Operator of his own Real Estate Investment Company, DISART, INC. Joseph grew up in a household where going to church, praying, and Bible-reading were commonplace. As a youth he attended Trinity Baptist Church, but in 1982 Joseph was baptized and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the Church of Christ of Apostolic Faith, Columbus, OH.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by his brother Roy Sutton Jr., nephew Todd Sutton and brother-in-law, Bradley Thomas.
Joseph is survived and will be sorely missed by Marilyn R. (Hill) Sutton his faithful and loving wife of 42 years. He will be forever loved by Daughters: Monica (Donald) Wilks and Jodie (Manley) DeShong both of Canal Winchester, OH; Brandy (Richard) Bedford, Cincinnati, OH; Step-Daughter: Carmen (Anthony) Bell, Canton, OH; Siblings: Margarett Thomas and Calvin (Nona) Sutton both of Columbus, OH; Evelyn (Joseph) Washington, Punta Gorda, FL. Grandchildren: Cierra (Ryan) Sawyer, Kaylee DeShong, Richelle, Richard III and Rachel Bedford, Cedric and Kameron Williams. Two Great-Grandchildren and a host of Nieces and Nephews, Family Members and Friends. Long time friend since Middle School Alvin Foster.
A service will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, 5600 E Broad St, Columbus, OH 43213, at 10:00AM in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Support Network, The Raymond James Building, 1421 Pine Ridge Rd Suite 100, Naples, FL, 34109.
