John E. Skirtich, age 74, of Columbus, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. He was born April 2, 1948 in Canton, Ohio, son of the late Daniel and Marie (Cincinat) Skirtich. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, John will be sorely missed by his wife of 52 years, Kathy Skirtich; children, Whitney (Joey) Barnard, Tyler (Maggie) Skirtich and Wyatt (Kirsten) Skirtich; beloved grandchildren, Rowan, Ender and Griffin; sisters, Alyce (Ken) Stults and Grace (Nick) Margaritakis; brothers, Joe (Dorene) Skirtich and Dan Skirtich; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. John received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Capital University. He began his career as a tax accountant with Columbia Gas in 1970 and served in many roles over the years. While there, he served on the CoreOne Credit Union board. John was a faithful member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church where he was active with the RCIA. During their high school years, John served on the Bishop Hartley school board, regularly volunteered as a bingo caller and attended all his children’s sporting events. He retired as a regulatory consultant after 46 years of service with Columbia (NiSource). John always had a sweet tooth and loved a good snack; he’d let you eat off his plate even though he rolled his eyes every time; yardwork was a hobby, not a chore; he loved a fast, red, sports car, and was an enthusiastic Ohio State fan. But most of all, John valued the importance of financial security and passionately taught his children about taxes, retirement and saving for the future. He was proud of his family and celebrated all their successes. Family and friends may call 4-7 pm Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at SCHOEDINGER EAST, 5360 E. Livingston Avenue, Columbus, OH 43232. Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4363 E. Broad St. with Fr. William Arnold, Celebrant. Private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5555 Frantz Road, Dublin, OH 43017 or save for your future and open a Roth IRA in John’s memory.
