Dr. John F. Graver Sr.

Dr. John F. Graver Sr., born May 28, 1938, in Fremont, OH, to the late Fern and Lowell Graver, died peacefully on December 2 at his home in Upper Arlington. Preceded in death by his first wife Bonnie Graver, stepson Joshua Marksz, and stepson-in-law Steve Black. Survived by wife Shari Graver; daughter Tracy (Paul Brown) Graver, sons John (Dennette) Graver Jr., James “Jamie” (Amy) Graver; stepdaughters Tracy (Dave) Grajzl and Kelly Black; grandchildren Jordan, John III, and Mandy Graver, Ali (Michael) Bougie, Brandon and Kayley Grajzl, Zoey and Quinn Black, and Connor Marksz Brennan.

After growing up in Hessville, OH, and attending Gibsonburg High School, John graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Orthodontics. He stayed in Central Ohio for the remainder of his life, running a successful orthodontic practice, Drs. Graver and Avery DDS.

John also had a long career in thoroughbred horse racing. He served as a member of the Ohio Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association and loved racing and breeding his thoroughbreds.

John was a devoted OSU sports fan and a longtime member of Buckeye Boosters and OSU President’s Club. He was an avid golfer, spending time with memberships at Catawba Island Club, and Brookside, Wedgewood, and Jefferson Country Clubs. John was an outdoorsman with a special love for fishing and hunting. He spent time fishing for trout at Zanesfield Rod and Gun Club and fishing for walleye and perch on Lake Erie, where he spent many summers.

John attended Upper Arlington Lutheran Church and enjoyed his time participating in his Tuesday bible study. John always found time to spend with his family and especially loved hosting family and friends at his two favorite places, Lake Erie and Pompano Beach, Florida.

Family will receive friends 2-5pm on Sunday, December 15, at the Schoedinger Northwest Chapel, 1740 Zollinger Road. Funeral service will be at 11am on Monday, December 16, at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church at Mill Run, 3500 Mill Run Dr, Hilliard, OH 43026. Private interment Union Cemetery.

Contributions may be made toward Parkinson Disease research efforts by supporting the Michael J. Fox Foundation or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
