Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by sons, John Thomas and Adam Thomas, siblings Ernest Thomas, Jr, Ella Marie Winegardner, Kathleen King, Flora Belle Bash, Baby Jesse Thomas and nephew, David Thomas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret (Peg) Thomas. Children - George Thomas Jr, Russell (Pamela) Thomas and Sandra (Mark Sr) Hensley, and his sister Erma Hunziker. Plus, 12 grandchildren, 22 great- grandchildren and 6 great great- grandchildren.
George is a Veteran of the US Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict.
In the 1960’s he was part owner of two fast food restaurants in Columbus, called Jiffy Drive-In. He retired from Fazio Foods in 1979 where he was the 3rd shift night manager. He later worked for ADT (American District Telegraph), where he finished out his career as an operations manager and retired from there in 1993. George was a long-time member and deacon at Sharon Woods Baptist Church.
He was also a member and Trustee of Crossroads Baptist Church, Columbus, Ohio.
When he was younger, George worked on his dad’s farm. He moved from Rushville to Columbus in the mid-1950’s. He lived in his current home, since 1967. He enjoyed going on fishing trips to Canada with his dad and brother. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and even rode with Peg all the way to Atlantic City, New Jersey. He also enjoyed going camping with Peg, especially to Dillon State Park and Myrtle Beach Travel Park.
George liked watching old TV shows. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting outside on the front porch or in the backyard swing with Peg and his dog Fez.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00PM on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Advantage by Schoedinger North at 5554 Karl Road in Columbus. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am, Friday, September 13, 2024 at the CrossRoads Baptist Church at 5075 Cleveland Avenue in Columbus 43231. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Union Cemetery.
