Evelyn Ralston

Retired teacher Evelyn Ralston, 83, passed away Saturday, December 17th of congestive heart failure.

She was born March 31st, 1928 in Cleveland, grew up in Bentonville, Ohio, and married her high school sweetheart Victor Ralston.

She received her B.S. from Ohio University and first taught high school in Manchester, Ohio, moving to Circleville in 1962, teaching in the Teays Valley school district, when Victor joined the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Evelyn completed her Masters at OSU in 1969 and was a guidance counselor for Circleville city schools. She was the first president of the Circleville Education Association, and advocated for teacher's rights. Vic and Evelyn made friends throughout Ohio with his assignments to posts in St. Marys and Wilmington after her retirement from teaching. In retirement, she enjoyed playing bridge, fine dining, supporting the Pickaway County Senior Center, being with her grandchildren, and the fellowship of her large community of friends.

Vic and Evelyn were 'snowbirds', spending winters in Panama City Beach, which she said was like 'living in a postcard.' She attended church at the Community United Methodist Church here in Circleville, and the Gulfview Methodist Church in Florida.

She is lovingly survived by her son Mark Ralston, his wife Bonnie Long of New Milford, CT, her daughter Vicki Stickel, her husband Ed Stickel of Circleville, grandchildren Rachel Ralston, her husband Chris Tom, of Ann Arbor, MI, Matthew Ralston, USAF, stationed at Nellis AFB, NV, Jesse Stickel and Heather Reid of Lancaster, Molly (Stickel) Smith, her husband Ryan Smith, great granddaughter Gwendolyn Smith of Marysville, and close friends George and RuthAnn Coey of Hilliard.

She will be missed by family and friends alike.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday December 21st at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville, with the Reverend Barry Burns officiating. Friends are invited to visit the family beginning at 12:00 noon, until time of service.
