A Celebration of Life Service for Elizabeth Cole, 84 of Newark, will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 383 Washington Street, Newark, with Rev. Dr. Charles W. Noble, Sr., officiating. Burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Cole was born in Jenkins Jones, West Virginia on October 17, 1926 to the late Samuel and Anniebell Watson. She passed away on October 22, 2010 at the OSU Medical Center in Columbus.
Mrs. Cole was a GI Lab Technician with Licking Memorial Hospital for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and was active in the Missionary Society, Bible School, catering and was selected as Woman of the Year in 2010. She also volunteered at Par-Excellence Academy, enjoyed reading her bible and was know a “prayer warrior.” She loved cooking, baking and gardening for her family. She also enjoyed taking walks downtown Newark, where she knew no stranger, donating her time and food to those in need. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend.
Survivors include her three children, Sylvester “Skip” Cole, Sr. of Newark, Lynn H. Cole of Reynoldsburg and Lisa (Shawn) Cole-Hamilton of Columbus; grandchildren, Lisa Lynn Cole and Sylvester Cole, Jr.; great grandchildren, Darris Royster, Ta’Leah Royster, Zaria Cole and Treyon Cole; sister, Rosa Lee Stigger; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, Branch, Burks, Carnelia, Jones, Manns, Watson, Saunders, Stigger and Cole; numerous extended family and special friends, Berry, Bradley, Glover, King, Stevens, Sellers, Scott, Strong, Noble, Ward and the Washington Square Community.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest E. Cole in 1979; brothers, Willie Saunders, Harry Burks, Guster L. Watson; sisters, Alberta Lewis, Mary Frances Ferguson, Bonnie Mae Jones and Rozena Manns.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Cole to the American Cancer Society, 5455 N. High St. Columbus, OH, 43214 or the Wexner Heritage Village, 1151 College Avenue, Columbus, OH 43209.
Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:00-1:00 PM, one hour prior to the funeral service. Arrangements are entrusted to Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
