Dr. Edward Lewis “Ed” Hamblin, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 5, 2024. Ed was born on July 13, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA to Robert Emmitt and Ruth (Nelp) Hamblin. In 1932 the Hamblin family moved to Bexley, OH where Ed was baptized and confirmed at the Bexley United Methodist Church. Ed graduated from Bexley High School in 1948 and from Ohio State University in 1952 with a degree in International Trade. He then served in the US Army for 2 years. In 1954 he began working at Jaeger Machine Company. After discovering his passion for education from teaching Sunday School at Bexley United Methodist, Ed pursued and earned a degree in Secondary Education at Ohio State University in 1957. Ed taught 7th grade at Bexley Junior High School from 1957-1962. He also received his Master of Arts in American History in 1960 and his PhD in 1965, both at Ohio State University. Ed enjoyed many summers in Weld, Maine at Camp Kawanhee where he attended as a camper beginning in 1944 and later served as a counselor during many summers until 1961.
On April 9, 1960, Edward married Mary Joan Schneider, who after 49 years of marriage, preceded him in death on June 1, 2009. After graduating with his PhD, Ed took a position at Eastern Washington State University where he held a joint appointment between the Education and Economic Departments. In 1973, Ed accepted the position of professor at the University of Connecticut, where he served as the Director of the Connecticut Joint Council for Economic Education. For 18 years he developed and expanded many programs throughout the State of Connecticut promoting the understanding of economic issues facing individuals and our society.
Following his retirement in 1991, Edward and Mary moved back to Bexley where he was active at the Bexley United Methodist Church and the Bexley Historical Society. Edward also became a member of the Benjamin Franklin Chapter of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 2002 where he also served as chapter president and registrar.
In 2014, Edward moved to Wesley Ridge in Reynoldsburg where be enjoyed seeing some familiar faces from Bexley. The family would like to thank the staff at Wesley Ridge and Leslie Parker for their dedicated care of Ed during the later years of his life. The family would also like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ who offers the free gift of salvation to all who place their faith and trust in Him.
Edward is survived by his children John (Debbie) Hamblin of Cranberry Twp., PA and Anne (Timothy) Bastian of State College, PA, grandchildren Nathaniel (Hannah) Hamblin, Michael (Kelley) Hamblin, Elizabeth Hamblin, Erika (Benjamin) Novak, David (Shannon) Bastian and Sarah (David) Zhang, and 7 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Kimes Chapel at the Wesley Ridge Retirement Community, located at 2229 Taylor Park Drive in Reynoldsburg, OH on Saturday November 16th at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will also be at Kimes Chapel from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on the 16th. A private burial service will be held at a later time.
