Doris E. (Zapp) Rhoads, age 96 of Upper Arlington, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at the Forum at Knightsbridge. Doris was born October 16, 1913 in Columbus and was a graduate of East High School. Upon graduation, Doris gained employment at Julian & Kokenge Shoe Company. She married Robert “Dusty” Harlan Rhoads in 1937 and was married 59 years. He died in 1996. When Doris retired from J&K, she worked at Upper Arlington Schools in accounting until she retired again. Doris and Dusty were members of Riverside United Methodist Church, competitive ballroom dancers and avid Buckeye fans. They tailgated at Plumb Hall and attended Rose Bowl games. Doris enjoyed playing cards and watching “The Price Is Right”. She was thoughtful and independent. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Maude Zapp; husband, Robert Harlan Rhoads; siblings, Margaret Breyfogle and Robert Louis Zapp; and nephew, Fred Young. Doris will be missed by her sister-in-law, Harriet Zapp; nephews and niece, Robert (Mary) Zapp, William Zapp, Dale (Cheryl) Zapp, David (Lynn) Zapp, and Deborah (Steven) Snavley; many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins. Family will receive friends 2-5pm Sunday, July 18, 2010 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus. Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday at the funeral home with calling hours one hour prior to the services, Rev. David Griebner, officiating. Entombment in Green Lawn Cemetery.
